Dungeon, Inc. if you hate corporate life?

I spent more time than is healthy going through the comments on Ben Milton's review of Dungeon, Inc. and a couple of comments reminded me of something I heard when I was playtesting the original French game: some people are concerned that the game is going to feel "too close to home" when it comes to the pains of corporate life. They roleplay (like I guess we all do at least to some extent) to escape daily life and immerse themselves in an imaginary world, and they do not wish for that world to remind them of the daily grind. I can relate to that. In fact, I never watched the original (UK) office pas the first season because it was so close to situations and archetypes I was interacting with on a daily basis that — while I laughed hard — it also made me very uncomfortable. Here are the two comments that sparked this post: Q. says "Too close to real life for me to play this." I'm not sure what to make of the smiley, but this is word for word an objection t...

Reviving Skyrealms of Jorune

I have loved the Skyrealms of Jorune universe and game proposition since I first bought the game in 1993. I even ran a few one shots in 93-94 and a full campaign in 95 in spite of the shall we say "less than helpful" game system. Since then, the 3rd ed. rulebook — as well as all of the supplements I could get my hands on — have been sitting on my shelves, occasionally perused, but never used. About 6 months ago I decided that this needed to change. I ran two parallel projects, one on my own and one with the help of two French fans of the game. EZ Jorune is an alternative system, designed from scratch, to emulate what the game world suggests you should be able to do in the game. It has very little of the original system's DNA and is designed to be fast, easy to use, flavorful and give the players meaningful choices. It's still being playtested, but I believe it's solid enough based on the few games I've run with it, so I'm releasing it to the world: EZ...

Why are we calling all these things D&D?

Over the years, I have realised that TTRPG theory doesn't tickle me the way playing, running and writing TTRPGs does, and so I have considered myself a practitioner rather than a theoretician (I fully understand you can be both.) As a consequence, I had until recently not consumed much youtube TTRPG content assuming that me listening to people talking about games was less interesting than me playing games. Lately though I have watched some really interesting channels, including but not limited to Bob World Builder , Questing Beast and Dungeon Craft . There is actually a lot of interesting content on youtube, and it allowed me to discover new and off the beaten path games or think about gaming aspects that I hadn't necessarily thought about. I'm less interested in rules minutae or GMing advice, but it's easy enough to skip those particular videos. One thing I've noticed though, and that has prompted me to write this short rant (a polite one, rest assured) is the comm...
